I know this may be a little late since the Fourth of July, which is in my top holidays, is tomorrow. It’s among my favorites mostly because there are fireworks & I really love fireworks. I can’t wait to see them all tomorrow night! I had this t-shirt in junior high that said, “I traded my boyfriend for fireworks.” I wish I still had that shirt or at least a photo to share because that isn’t too far from the truth.
So a couple months ago, I saw these red, white, & blue Twizzlers at the store. I immediately thought I had to use them for something for the Fourth of July. Ideas bounced around in my head over the weeks & I landed on some sort of cupcake with a Twizzler firework topper. I’m most excited about these because I thought them up all by myself! Al it takes is any old cake mix, icing of your choice, & Twizzlers. Hope you enjoy them!
Prepare cake mix according to package directions. I used a plain white cake mix & added a box of French vanilla pudding. Divide batter equally into 3 mixing bowls. Simply use food coloring to color your prepared cake mix.
Layer a spoonful of each color accordingly, one right on top of the other. If you bang your cupcake pan on the counter a few times, it will help the colors settle into even layers & get rid of air bubbles.
Bake & Cool.
Aren’t they beautiful? It was more difficult than I’d imagined to find them again. I had to go on a bit of a Twizzler hunt. Finally I found them in the seasonal section at Kroger. I bought 3 packages, but mindlessly left them sitting out on the counter & came home to only 2 packages…
Open them up, eat a few, then cut them into chunks about 2 inches or so.
Stand them up & peel each strand away from each other. Fan them out & keep the bottoms intact.
Then place a top an iced cupcake. I used a cool whip icing recipe. However, I am very worried about them withstanding the heat tomorrow. I feel I might regret that decision. So i recommend using a sturdier frosting. Use your own frosting-discernment here!
Arrange ‘firework’ to your own liking. I think they turned out great. I would even add little colored sugar crystals for more pizzaz.
Perfect dessert for your Fourth of July bbq, shindig, beach day, whatever!
Very easy & kid-friendly! Let me know if you try them!
Thanks for visiting y’all! Happy Fourth!
