Last week I shared a photo on Instagram of my grandparents 52nd anniversary cake. We had a last minute dinner with them to celebrate & my grandmother cooked us all dinner. When my mom called to invite me I asked what I should bring & she said dessert! It was their anniversary so a cake was necessary. I found out my grandfathers favorite flavor- chocolate with vanilla icing & got to baking. Nothin’ fancy, just a mix.
Decorating cakes, or cookies for that matter, is not one my talents. Unfortunately, I’m awful. I really didn’t want to ruin their yummy cake with a tragic icing job. So I thought about what I was good at & decided I’d be taking this cake decorating thing with a fresh view.
That’s the finality of the can-frosted cake. Heaven, forgive me?
I decuded I’d do what I do best & cover the cake in junk. I grabbed everything I could imagine standing on a cake- mini bunting, wooden hearts, lace doilies, paper straws, toothpicks, paper hearts & a little banner I made on pic monkey then cut out.
I grabbed some sparkly ribbons too. Then set to work.
First I taped/tied everything to straws or toothpicks then began adding everything. It was still missing something until I slathered it with white sprinkles! It looked so pretty sitting on counter! Unfortunately, it got s tad ruined in the traveling/unpacking period. Still tasted fab & grandma loved it! Really that’s all that matters!
I’ll share are some photos of the whole setup I threw together with some extra junk I had on hand. Lots of lace, candles & mushy stuff! Just ignore the cakes big blemish from moving…
Now go junk all your future cakes! So much easier than icing I promise! Unless of course you’re good at that sort of thing. In which case you should go spread your talent al over the world!
