Good Monday Morning Friends!
This week I am going to SNAP, a conference for creative bloggers & I am completely & totally OVERJOYED! I have so many feelings & so much left to do…I’ll tell you a little more about that later.
First, let’s get to this DIY I promised on the porch details- the painted pots & welcome mat.
If you missed my bold & bright spring/summer porch reveal, check it out here first!
The look was Lilly Pulitzer inspired. I’m loving sitting out her to work on things in the evenings or have a quick lunch by myself.
I wanted to dress up things I already had, like these pots. They had already had the criss-cross pattern, but they were too boring for my vision. I wanted to stick to freehand watercolor sort of method with blocks of punchy color. No straight lines here!
I used white craft paint to follow the natural lines on the pot. Then began filling in the diamonds one at a time in different colors.
If I was striving for perfectly straight lines here, I would’ve used plenty of painter’s tape. But this method was so much simpler & more fun! Plus, I’m in love with the whismy outcome. This a great project for kids to get in on too…Mother’s Day gifts?
They look just right filled with colorful flowers & flamingos.
We had a regular welcome mat before, which was alright. It did not match my theme though. So I spray painted it & then spray painted it again & one last time for good measure.
First I painted the outer rubber area with an emerald green. Then I taped it off & painted the mat part navy blue. I criss-crossed tape & used bright yellow on the inside. The end result is sort of like a pineapple pattern. I added a strips of bright pink on the ridges in the outer part of the mat with a paintbrush.
What do you think?
To be honest, my current feelings on this guy are mixed, but I’m leaving him for now, anyway. the good news is, I can paint this over & over. It’s seriously easy to spray paint your welcome mat! Don’t be boring! Be colorful!
Thanks for visiting y’all!
