Happy Wednesday Y’all! Can you believe Father’s Day is this Sunday?! Who knew! I’m throwing a last minute DIY that Dad might actually like.
Start with some “cool looking” wood. Like this.
This wood was scrap from a table my husband made. Before that it was from an old crate his work. So, I’m reclaiming reclaimed wood here. You can use new wood if you must, but you can always find something in someone else’s trash! If using new wood, use a gray stain & distress the wood a bit with hammers/nails/chains/sanding/etc. Look around at you local hardware store for some pieces to add character to new wood, like this thing on the top of mine. I don’t even know what it is! Add any hardware pieces you like to make it more manly/industrial looking.
Be sure to cut the wood to a good size as well. Mine is 7.5″ wide x 7.75″ tall. Ideally, it needs to be able to stand up on it’s own. If you’re having trouble, you can gift it with a stand or add a hanger to the backside for putting up on the wall.
You’ll need Scrabble tiles & mini clothespins, plus a hot glue gun. You can find Scrabble tiles online, like etsy or ebay, or flea markets & thrift stores. Check garage sales for Scrabble games & hold onto the letters. I always stock up at Canton or Texas Antiques Week, which are both huge, gigantic craft fairs/flea markets/ antique shows/boutique pop-us rolled into one. If worse comes to worse, go steal a few tiles from your own board game box!
If you just can’t find any Scrabble tiles to make it work, check out a craft supply store for something similar. They don’t sell actual Scrabble tiles, but they do have all kinds of letters for projects.
Arrange the letters for “Dad is Rad” or anything you’d like for it to say! Sky’s the limit y’all. You could even make this for someone else. Doesn’t have to be for good, old dad.
Use hot glue to attach the letters & the clothespin. Add in your own photo immediately or gift it with this tag clipped on & let dad pick his own photo.
