I’ve been filling my home with fall decor & I love to add in new pieces I’ve made each year. This year, I am feeling inspired by the raw wood at Hobby Lobby!
I love browsing the aisles for holiday craft inspiration & the wood section did not disappoint! I came up with a fall & Christmas craft using raw wood slices!
I love how both of them turned out & I think you will too! Both are simple to make, but show a big impact in your home decor. I love how you can use these wood rounds for decor projects all year round! They totally flow with my current farmhouse style farm, but can be transformed for use in any home, whatever your decorating style!
DIY RAW WOOD SLICE TABLE RUNNER
For fall, I made a gorgeous wood table runner! I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it all came together.
To make you own, you’ll need a scrap piece of wood, your favorite stain, a paint brush, assorted raw wood slices & a nail gun or hot glue gun or wood glue. The wood needs to be shorter than the length of your table & about 6″ wide. For me this was a 6′ x 6″ x 1″ board. I used 3 bags of assorted raw wood slices from Hobby Lobby for this project.
Start by sanding & staining your wooden board. Once it’s completely dry, start arranging the raw wood slices along the board as you’d like them to appear.
Once you’re pleased with the arrangement, it’s time to start sticking! You can do this several ways- wood glue, hot glue, epoxy or a nail gun. I found a nail gun to be the quickest & easiest method. If your nails are a little longer than your board, be sure to hammer the tips down on the backside afterwards.
Lay the wood runner across your table & set it for a fall feast! I’m loving the impact it makes all by itself. It only needs a few pumpkins on top & it’s all ready to go!
I might leave this up year round & switch out a little decor on top. It’s perfect for a farmhouse style home, like mine! The gorgeous natural tones & textures really take it over the top! Raw wood always gives a home a welcoming, inviting feeling that I hope to replicate in my home!
DIY CHRISTMAS SCENE CENTERPIECE
Winter scenes give me all the holiday feels y’all! I don’t know if it’s because I live in Houston where we never get snow, or what, but they bring me such joy! I wanted to do something a bit different & create an open Christmas scene on top of a raw wood slice. The end result is so festive!
To make your own, you’ll need a large raw wood slice from Hobby Lobby, bottle brush trees in multiple sizes, a car/truck ornament, mini deer & a hot glue gun/glue. I purchased everything for this project at Hobby Lobby! I liked being able to put items together in the store & get an idea of what I wanted it to look like in the end.
Arrange your pieces on your wood slice however you like. You can play around with different items until you’re happy with the look. Once you’ve achieved that, time to hot glue everything down!
That’s it you guys! How easy! This makes a beautiful, seasonal centerpiece that can be used in so many different style homes. I love the versatility of it. Raid your Christmas stash, then go to Hobby Lobby for whatever pieces you’re missing.
This is the perfect project for the kids to get in on too! Let them arrange scenes for you to glue down. You could totally set up mini winter scenes on smaller raw wood rounds & let each child pick their own.
