Y’all, I l L-O-V-E picnics! I have since I was a little girl & begged my mom to take us on picnics all summer long. I had the prettiest play picnic set as a kid & wish I still had it for occasions like this! It was adorable & everything was mini! When my mom wouldn’t take us out to park, I’d set up a picnic in the backyard. My siblings totally loved it!
I still love to set up picnics & often meet my husband at the park while he’s fishing for a sweet picnic! My niece’s adore going to the park, so I’ll bring along playful picnics for them too. There’s really not anyone in my life who doesn’t appreciate a good picnic!
A Halloween picnic is something I’ve never done before & I couldn’t wait to get started with every little detail!
I started with perfect lunch snacks- Keebler® & Cheez-It® Variety Pack, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies Treats® Original & Keebler® Cookie Mini Fudge Stripes.
I turned the Rice Krispies Treats into spiderwebs occupied with spooky spiders! I cut a piece of web scrapbook paper & wrapped it around the Rice Krispies Treat with washi tape. I used a little glue dot to attach the plastic spider. Another way to dress them up is monster style! Wrap it in purple construction paper, cover with googly eyes & give it pipe cleaner antennae!
I dressed everything else up with googly eyes! They add a creepy-fun factor! They come with a sticky back, so it’s easy to add them to anything & everything.
I used jack o’lantern pails for lunch boxes & packed all the snacks + a sandwich & a banana up in those. Adding a ribbon handle is EASY! Just cut off the plastic handle & replace with ribbon! I prefer wired ribbon. Add bows on each side for bonus points. Tiny cauldrons made the perfect silverware caddies. Fill them with silverware, a cute straw, a napkin & a treat. I tied vampire teeth & a spider ring onto them. They make faboolous favors & provide easy entertainment.
My favorite part might be the “Happy Halloween” banner strung up behind our picnic. I tied the banner to a jumbo jack o’lantern at one end & a large cauldron on the other. It made a lovely backdrop! I laid down an old quilt first, to make things comfier, then threw a burlap tablecloth on top & black & white plaid runner over that. More layers make things more cozy! Throw some felt spiders around for pizzazz.
I brought along a few real pumpkins & a couple of Halloween buddies to make things extra special.
A basket is a must at any picnic & this one makes a great tray for rounding up lunch! I’ve got all the essentials!
Rice Krispies Treats bring back my best memories & I hope to create many more with them, like this picnic! We can’t forget the Mini Fudge Stripe Cookies, baked to perfection in the Hollow Tree®, these shortbread mini cookies are striped with delicious fudge made from 100% real cocoa. They’re great for snacking. Uncommonly Made. Uncommonly Good.®
The sandwiches are cut into round pumpkins with candy corn stems! I placed them in regular, plastic baggies & stapled a piece of festive scrapbook paper over the opening. It’s a super easy way to dress up lunches! The water bottles got the Halloween treatment with striped ribbon & a cute, pumpkin tag. A big eyeball on the lid takes it over the top!
